Bakery Projects > Kenya

Dusty first visited Kenya in 2006, when he spent the summer in Africa with Russell Lingerfelt. Five of those weeks were at the Made in the Streets orphanage outside of Nairobi, Kenya, working in the slums of Mathare Valley and Eastleigh. Charles and Darlene Coulston have poured years into the ministry of Made in the Streets. Our hope is that Lifebread's long-term relationship with the school will be a benefit to their mission.

The 2009 Bakery Project lasted 4 weeks and produced 3 ovens, which are currently used as part of a cooking education program for students living and learning at the orphanage.

Lifebread's most recent work in Kenya was while Dusty and Cecily Breeding lived and worked at Made in the Streets from Fall 2010 through Spring 2011. During this time, the Breedings will worked closely with the school's culinary program, helping to develop its curriculum and depth. Lifebread was also pursuing job placements for several of the students who have graduated from the culinary program. Finding a decent job and utilizing the skills attained while studying at Made in the Streets is the last step in the redemptive process of bringing children off the streets and into the kingdom of God.
